Conference
Process
Open
Space is essentially simultaneous self-organised discussion
groups.
Don’t
be fooled into thinking this process lacks structure
and purpose, to the contrary. People are attending these events because
they want to contribute to generational change in our non-profits
organisations. They want to understand the issues and the
process.
These
people are not going to waste their time, or your time, on
irrelevant conversations. They are going to use this conference to
share their ideas, build collaborative relationships, develop
strategies and bridge any generational gap in a productive and positive
manner and in such a way as to ensure continued high quality service
delivery to our communities.

When you
arrive at your conference venue, after checking into your
accommodation, you will be greeted, welcomed to the event and invited
to enjoy opening canapés as you network with others and
greet acquaintances.
At the
appointed time a ringing bell will summon
delegates to the main conference room, to join an opening circle. The
event host will quickly pass on administrative information before
handing over to a guest facilitator. The guest facilitator will welcome
people and introduce them to Open Space, explaining the process.
Delegates will then be invited to nominate topics for
discussion.
Those
nominating a discussion topic will step into the circle, introduce
themselves and their topic before proceeding to place details of their
topic onto the ‘marketplace’ wall at one of the
available presentation times and locations. Then the conference begins
as people move to join discussions at their appointed time.
Imagine
This – starting on Friday evening, continuing
throughout Saturday and finishing midday Sunday you will be a part off
maybe 6-8 group conversations. It is likely you will be able to choose
from discussions that will raise your awareness of potential issues,
help you identify strategies, develop greater understanding, provide
you with ideas you can use in your own organisation, help build
relationships, develop career pathways and identify management
issues.
Each
discussion group will comprise a cross section of people from
every part of our non-profit community, some will be involved in the
workplace, others from the community sector and still others from
various levels of government. This unique event brings together
representatives from all parts of the sector for discussions that
matter.
In between
these discussions you will have ample opportunity to
relax, enjoy something to eat and drink, catch up with colleagues and
new found friends. Each venue has wireless broadband available to
enable people to update blogs, Facebook and Twitter on the
discussions they have been a part off.
